In order to
inspire further development of the project, RAM (PNG) has made the
decision to treat whole districts at a time. This will amplify
effects of the program and may even bring about the early
eradication of Malaria in some areas.
Within Papua New
Guinea there are 89 districts, each of these has up to 300 villages
within it. In total are approximately 9000 village areas available
for adoption, sponsors provide for the original purchase of the nets
as well as the transportation to each village.
Sponsored nets
are delivered to each area where the recipients make a small
contribution towards the cost of the nets. This contribution covers
the cost of revisiting the area after a year in order to treat the
nets again with insecticide.
With
assistance from the US Department of Defense and Exxon Mobil a total
saturation program has been started in the Kikori/Baimuru
districts of the Gulf Province.
